ADVANCED SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT, INC. WINS ABBIE

(Arlington, VA and Huntsville, AL) – Advanced Systems Development, Inc. (ASD) was announced as one of nine winners of the 2006 Arlington Best Business Award (ABBIE). The winners both large and small businesses – were selected from a large field of nominees and announced on May 16th at the 11th Annual ABBIES presentation at a breakfast in the Sheraton Hotel in Arlington.

The prestigious ABBIE Awards were proposed in 1987 by the Small Business Council of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the best of Arlington's small businesses. The first award was presented in the spring of 1987. Award recipients are chosen by a Chamber selection committee that usually consists of the Chamber Chairman and several previous ABBIE winners. The ABBIES awards are presented to those businesses that consistently provide outstanding quality of service and products, have achieved significant growth or stability over the lifetime of their business and display industry leadership. All ABBIES winners focus on giving back to the community and making Arlington a better place to live and work.

  • For nearly 25 years, Advanced Systems Development (ASD) has delivered comprehensive Information Technology support to the Federal Government and private industry clients.
  • Their commitment to excellence is founded in their philosophy of dependable performance and dynamic advancement. This philosophy encompasses everything that they do.
  • At ASD, they strive to hire the best employees for the job requirement and provide the tools and training to accomplish the outstanding performance needed to support their customers.
  • And ASD’s support does not stop at the customer. They support a company-wide volunteer participation know as the ASD Volunteerism Initiative.
  • ASD’s specific charity work includes several different initiatives.
  • In April 2006, ASD donated the corporate sponsorship and partnered with “Serving Those Who Serve,” an organization that raises monetary donations and provides building materials to assist injured service members, their families and the elderly, in adapting their existing homes for handicapped accessibility or improvements. On “National Rebuilding Day” (April 29, 2006) and again on May 20th volunteers from ASD helped renovate a former service member’s home in Washington, DC. ASD employees who spend days delivering IT solutions to Pentagon customers, volunteered both days to serve as painters, plumbers and anything else they could do to pitch in.
  • ASD is committed to initiate a program to help transition those how have been severely injured while serving their county in combat, back into the workplace.
  • President Richard Bennett stated, “The men and women in our armed forces are serving locally and abroad sacrificing abundantly to ensure our freedom, safety and national security. Those men and women returning with life-style impairments have a need for a job”
  • ASD employees volunteer with the USO, through financial donations and ongoing employee participation.
  • One of their planned volunteer days this June will be spent preparing packages for U.S. troops abroad.
  • ASD also provides money for college scholarships on an annual basis, most recently donating two ROTC scholarships and with the assistance of ITEA donated a third college scholarship.

We are proud to be a ‘Trusted Agent’ for many of the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) and Washington Headquarters Services (WHS) components as well as the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command and Missile Defense Agency. We plan to continue this legacy well into the future,” said Bennett.

Founded by Richard Bennett in 1979, ASD is a small, minority-owned business that graduated from the Small Business Administration’s 8(a) program in 1992. ASD provides IT services to the Department of Defense and Federal Agencies from its headquarters located in Arlington, Virginia, an office in Huntsville, Alabama, and from numerous client sites located across seven states and the District of Columbia. ASD is currently appraised at CMMI Level 2, and on a path to achieve CMMI Level 3 in the near future.
